Challenges in your industry
In recent years anyone purchasing professional indemnity (PI) insurance as an essential part of their risk management programme is likely to have found their renewal process to be a lengthy, drawn out, and expensive process. Very few professions have escaped the hard market conditions, with those in the construction sectors, independent financial advisers and insurance brokers hit most harshly.
How we support
PI policies work on a claims made basis which is different to many other types of insurance cover in that you need to have a policy in force at the time a claim is made for cover to respond, rather than having had a policy in place when the work in question was carried out. Your Partners& Adviser can talk you through the implications of the cover basis and how this will impact you if you cease to trade or are considering amending your cover level.

It is important to take a number of factors into consideration when assessing what limit of indemnity to purchase. Your Partners& Adviser can support you in reviewing the following…Â
- Contractual obligations / requirementsÂ
- Regulatory requirementsÂ
- Size of your contractsÂ
- Potential legal costsÂ
PI policies work on a claims made basis which is different to many other types of insurance cover in that you need to have a policy in force at the time a claim is made for cover to respond, rather than having had a policy in place when the work in question was carried out. Your Partners& Adviser can talk you through the implications of the cover basis and how this will impact you if you cease to trade or are considering amending your cover level. Â
Your policy will cover both actual claims received, and circumstances you become aware of that could give rise to a claim later down the line. If you become aware of an error or omission or issue where no claim has yet been made by your client, it is important that you notify insurers, via your Partners& Adviser, in order that they can gather full details and support you in mitigating the likelihood of a claim arising. Â
Our inhouse claims team will also be on hand to support you throughout the claims process, providing you with a reference point to assist with dealing with Insurers and their advisers, understanding what is going on to enable you to meet your responsibilities under the policy and utilising their expertise to challenge insurers if/where required.Â
