With the nights drawing in and thoughts of festive gift lists on people’s minds, November is the ideal time of year for a book festival.
Hart Insurance has been involved in the Cove and Kilcreggan Book Festival since 2017. It’s a village event that attracts national attention with guests this year including Nicola Sturgeon, Sally Magnusson and Pat Nevin, among others.
This year, Hart Insurance is sponsoring a talk with Scotland’s favourite historian Professor Sir Tom Devine.
According to Alistair Hart, “We love the book festival. My best memory has to be meeting Jon Snow and hearing his account of a flight with Idi Amin and Baroness Helena Kennedy recounting her UN investigation of the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi. That’s the kind of experiences you can have at this event! It’s wonderful!”
Having been involved with the festival for so many years, Alistair has also advised them on how to avoid typical risks and pitfalls associated with large scale events.
Alistair explains: “One of the major risks to any event is cancellation and non-appearance of guests. This is something that keeps all event organisers awake at night, but it you have the right insurance in place, at least the event is not out of pocket.
“Another piece of advice I always give is do not get complacent! Maintain the rigorous event planning regime that has stood the test of time and take advantage of any new risk guidance that emerges. It’s easy to become lax if you haven’t had an incident, and that will be the time when something happens.”
